Yoga for
any-body
Yoga
means unification, it creates unity of mind, body and soul. Practicing
yoga will create an inner balance; will generate self-knowledge
and joy of life. Many different forms of yoga exist. The yoga I
teach is Hatha Yoga. Ha means sun and Tha stands for moon. Hatha
Yoga strives to unify sun (your active side, Shakti) and moon (your
passive side, Shiva). Hatha Yoga is the physical form of yoga and
the best known form of yoga in the western world. The strength of
yoga lies in its ability to easily adapt to individual needs. Anyone,
regardless of age, suppleness, religion or income, can practice
yoga.

During the
yoga sessions I concentrate on
Meditation We’ll
be meditating for a short while during each session. For some people
this will be their first encounter with meditation. The most important
aspect of meditation is to sit in a comfortable and quiet way and
concentrate on your breathing.
Breathing exercises
Pranayama
Breath means life; we can’t do without it for even three minutes.
As newborn creatures or babies we still know how to breathe properly,
but as soon as we start thinking, breathing becomes erratic. Practicing
Pranayama will make you conscious of your breathing. You will learn
how to breath deeper and more consciously, resulting in rest and
relaxation. Breathing well will have a positive effect on your entire
psychological and physical well being.
Yoga postures Asana's
Thousands of different yoga positions exist, and many styles of
yoga. All postures though, stem from the physical form of yoga,
Hatha Yoga. Most important is to find your self a comfortable and
stable (sitting-) position. After practicing yoga for some time,
you will notice your body becoming more supple and softer. Physical
complaints such as pain in the lower back, tensions in the neck
and shoulders, will gradually disappear or lessen. You will discover
the working of mind and body and their possibilities.
Relaxation Yoga
Nidra During relaxation, usually performed lying
down, the most important thing is to let go of everything. Body
and mind will then be able to give in to the peace, quiet and silence
generated within you.

Corporate
Yoga
Seated work (usually at the computer), tensions and work-related
stress may cause people to become stiff or develop health problems.
Many people will benefit from one hour of yoga a week to solve these
problems. Yoga also has a positive effect on group processes and
processes involving awareness. Practicing yoga can prevent health
problems and will increase the joy in work and life. Research has
shown that people, who spent time relaxing consciously, will be
more productive and successful at work.
There are several options, such as yoga at the beginning of the
day, yoga at lunch, or yoga in the afternoon. I’d like to
discuss these options personally to find the best solution for your
company.

Yoga Outdoors
On a pleasant Sunday during the summer season you can enjoy a day of Yoga Outdoors in the coastal region called ‘Kennemerduinen’. The mild and fresh air provides a perfect atmosphere to practice pranayama and the asana’s. Mariët will prepare an Indian picnic, to be followed by an explanation of the Yoga philosophy. You will have the opportunity to ask ‘questions you always wanted to ask about yoga’. Yoga Outdoors is also open to people who do not visit the regular yoga classes. |

|
|
Workshops Yoga Intensification
Throughout the year Intensification workshops will be given at irregular intervals. These workshops will treat both the subject of Yoga philosophy and some specific asana’s. The workshops will be given on a Sunday morning; a light Indian lunch will be served (prepared by Mariët).

Private lessons
or ‘Yoga made to measure’
Yoga made to measure is meant for people dealing
with an illness (physically and/or psychologically) or recovering
from an illness or serious event. It’s also for people who
don’t feel comfortable in a group or simply don’t have
the time to join the group sessions. I adapt the lessons to the
client. People either suffering from a physical problem or dealing
with psychological difficulties will benefit from yoga. Private
lessons can also be used to concentrate on yoga positions. |

|
Good
to know
Yoga is not a religion and no sport. You work on your postures in
a relaxed way, without any notion of achievement or competition.
Yoga is best performed on an empty stomach, meaning you should have
had your last meal an hour-and-a-half before joining the session.
Make sure you wear comfortable clothing during the sessions. |
